Our main floor and upstairs are completely barren, and all our junk is stored in boxes in the basement. We are finally embarking on the exciting, scary, unknown adventure of remodeling. Here’s what’s on the docket for sure:
- New kitchen
- New master bath
- New mudroom
- Updated powder room
- Updated Jack-and-Jill bath for the kids
Then there’s the less-fun-but-especially-necessary stuff:
- New electrical (bye-bye, tube and nob!)
- New plumbing (bye-bye, backed-up cast-iron sewer main!)
This project is an expensive venture, but we hope it will provide a better quality of life for our family. For months, neither of our upstairs bathrooms has been functioning. Five cupboard doors are broken or missing. And we have a huge hole in our kitchen ceiling from a leak that sprung this wicked winter. An update is overdue, and my sweet husband, who has indulged me over and over with this whole “old house” thing, is more than ready for some improvements. Living in a historic home isn’t always glamorous.
So for now my books are boxed up, and I’ll be wearing a capsule wardrobe for the next four months. Wish me luck! If you’ve got tips for a successful remodel, please share. •
How exciting! Keep us all updated. It is sure to be amazing!
