At last night’s meeting, Idaho Falls city engineers announced their plans have changed. And here’s what we can look forward to:
Before it snows, South Boulevard will be re-striped with bike lanes six feet wide, and the center turn lane will disappear from much of the road.
This is a huge victory for us! We cannot thank you enough for your support. The meeting room was filled to capacity with standing room only—we seriously mobilized, and look what happens when citizens band together for a worthy cause.
At the meeting’s outset, we were told road widening would not be discussed, and we weren’t too surprised. Although we are told on repeat that the widening project is “down the road a number of years,” we know the early planning stages have begun. Not to fear! We are on top of this and have enlisted the support of a savvy engineer with a career’s worth of experience to help prevent road widening on our street. We will keep you informed.
But for now, let’s celebrate the victory! I hope to see you all on the boulevard, and if you pass my place, make sure to say hi. •
Thank you for all of your incredible work on this! You are an inspiration for us all!
