Design inspiration: Hood River Hotel

On our summer road trip, we stopped for lunch in Hood River, Oregon. Next to the parking lot stood the Hood River Hotel, a restored historic hotel towering above the small town. I ran into the lobby for a peak while Lonnie buckled up the kids and saw this:

Not bad, Hood River.

I’m a fan of masculine décor—I actually prefer it, though the feminine colors in my house might make you wonder. So I used the photo above as inspiration for a boy’s bedroom.

Buffalo-check pillows. A checkered floor is always fun, but if you don’t want to do that, add some checks on your pillows. (Fun fact: I had a black-and-white checkered floor in my bedroom as a teen.)

Sputnik semi-flush ceiling light

Mod black sconce

Antique oriental rug

Whale vs. squid (I am weirdly obsessed with whale vs. squid everything)

Hustle poster (because isn’t this the word of the year?)

Leather chair

If you have a favorite photo and would like to see it transformed into a layout like this, let me know! I’m always looking for post ideas, and the one you see here and this one too were a lot of fun to put together. •
