One color. That’s it.

What do you think about painting an entire room one color? I’m talking walls, trim, doorframes, everything except the ceiling. I’m obsessed with the idea, and since old houses love color (and so do I), we’re gonna give this look a go in our master bedroom.

Here are a few of my favorite inspiration photos:

So rich, right? There’s also something about this look that feels classic English to me (which is a perfect match for any Tudor house).

Last weekend I went to an open house for an amazing 1938 Colonial Revival that had been maintained better than any historic home I’ve ever been in. My favorite room was the library, which boasted built-in shelving and trim painted a warm, ephemeral gray. It didn’t hurt that the shelves were loaded with books and that the wallpaper and curtains were the exact same print. Custom for the win.

Would you paint your trim and millwork a color? Would you bathe an entire room a single color? I sure hope ours turns out like these inspo photos, but whether it does or not, I’ll share the photos when it’s done so you can decide. •
